Workshop for the Chamela Fishing Refuge

From February 19 to 21, we held a workshop on Fishing Refuge Areas with the Bahía de Chamela S.C. de R.L. Fishing Production Cooperative, in which 10 women and 14 men participated.

The objectives were:

• To generate a common understanding of the community process for applying for and managing a ZRP and the needs for community participation; and

• To lay the foundations for the internal organization and planning of a ZRP management committee.

Outcomes:

1. A shared vision for the Chamela community in 2030

2. Identification of relevant actors associated with the FRZ project and outreach activities

3. Organizational chart of the cooperative and the FRZ council

4. Work plan for February-July

In addition to our Sierra A Mar team we had special guests participating: Adán Aranda Fragoso (IIES of the UNAM), Andrés Lucero Lucero (Boca de Álamo ZRP), Pablo Castro (LegacyWorks Group), Rosario Espinosa (ICPMX)
